Rencontre Mondiale
World Meeting

The Hague, September 2-3, 2019

The Hague Academy
GNSIL

The world meetings do not intend to be academic conferences. They are opportunities for dialogue between Societies for International Law and national branches of the ILA, and with leading practitioners of international law. They focus on international law fondamental issues, on the functions of the societies for international law and on the ways to develop their cooperation.

THE SECOND WORLD MEETING OF SOCIETIES FOR INTERNATIONAL LAW

This is the second time the French Society for International Law proposes its sister societies to meet during a World event dedicated to international law and the role they play as institutions. The Hague meeting is organised under the auspices of the Academy of International Law and in cooperation with the Global Network of Societies for International Law. It will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of September (2019) in the Peace Palace (Academy of International Law building).

The meeting’s themes will follow the first debates that the sister societies already had in Strasbourg (France) in 2015. We will focus on the role of the societies for international law and on the possible ways to develop coordinated activities.

The World meeting will be held in English and/or French. For some of the sessions there will be a French-to-English translation.

Access to the Second World Meeting of Societies for International Law will be only for invited guests.

SOME WORDS ON THE FIRST WORLD MEETING

The first World meeting organised by the French Society for International Law took place in 2015 (May 27-28) in Strasbourg. The purpose of the event was to gather scholarly societies dedicated to studying, protecting and promoting international law. To that end, the debates focused on their roles and means of action, on how to strengthen their cooperation, on expectations of various actors on the international stage, and on their relationships with both private and public actors.

More than 50 societies and 200 international lawyers participated in this successful event.

REMARKS BY DR. DANILO TÜRK AT THE DINNER ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD MEETING OF SOCIETIES FOR INTERNATIONAL LAW
Strasbourg, 27 May 2015

Dear friends,
We are meeting under an interesting title, not often discussed: »Role and Functions of the Societies for International Law.«
The title suggests reflection about past experience, the achievements so far and about the expectations regarding the frontiers of international law in the future.

COUR PERMANENTE D’ARBITRAGE
